Usually, people use candles to set the tone of a dinner, meditation, prayer, or even to create a romantic setting. They create a warm and intimate atmosphere. Unfortunately, accidents sometimes happen, and the candle wax may drip over your carpet.
At this moment, you know it has to be cleaned. Still, you don’t want the situation to worsen and wash it in a way that causes irreversible damage to your carpet.
Nonetheless, you don’t need to worry about that anymore. In the following paragraphs, we will describe in detail what you need to do to leave your carpet spotless after it has been spilled all over it.
Process of Getting Wax Out of a Carpet
Cleaning the melted wax is not a process as complicated as you may think. Most of the materials used to perform carpet cleaning are typical items that should be in your house. You may use the following items:
- Vacuum
- Butter knife or another dull knife
- Paper towel, brown paper bag, or terry cloth towel
- Iron or hair dryer
- Bag of ice or ice pack
- Carpet cleaner or rubbing alcohol
Once everything is ready, it is time to start performing the wax removal.
Step #1: Freeze the wax
Here, what you have to do is to put the wax at the lowest temperature possible. To do this, you can put a bag of ice or ice pack above the stain. It must be wrapped in plastic, so the wax doesn’t get wet, making removing it more difficult.
Step #2: Scrape off the wax
When the wax is cold, you can remove most of it with the butter knife (or any other dull knife). You have to be careful with the carpet’s threads. If it is completely clean, you can skip stepp #5; if not, follow the next step.
Step #3: Prepare and iron the stain
Now you have to place the paper towel, brown paper bag, or terry cloth towel over the wax stain. Then, you must rub the iron all over the towel in the lowest temperature setting. Be careful not to use the steam setting. The wax will be absorbed like magic.
Step #4: Clean the carpet
Now that you have removed the wax, you can wet a towel with rubbing alcohol and dab the stain until the color is removed.
Step #5: Vacuum the carpet
Once the carpet is dry, you can vacuum it to restore its texture and make it look new.
